Unfortunately in recent years they've had to put a fence up to stop stupid humans from trying to pet them. It's gone from being a local secret to something people travel to see. I can't blame them, but I do miss the old days when it was just a handful of people and the seals. It felt intimate and magical.
When the pups want their mothers attention, they make a noise that sounds exactly like "MUM". It sounds so much like a human child it's unreal.

These photos made my morning :) You are so lucky to be able to see seals in the wild, it must be so interesting to watch them interact with each other!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures! I can't imagine how incredible it must be to witness something so intimate as this with wild animals. It is unfortunate that they've put up a fence, but I hope that it at least deters people from petting them or possibly the litter that I imagine sometimes comes hand in hand with tourists. Those seal pups are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHow precious! I've seen Sea Lions sort of up close before, but they're a little scary. These seals are so adorable, what a wonderful thing to live near.
ReplyDeleteAww gorgeous! I've never seen sea lions, you are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteOh, these photos are so sweet - great captures! I'm amazed at how intelligent their eyes are.
ReplyDeleteStupid humans ruin everything! (The seals are still awesome, though.)
ReplyDeleteCutest blog post ever!!! Oh my word, I am the biggest seal fan and can't get enough of seeing these darling chubby sweethearts of the sea. When we were on our awesome Vancouver Island holiday at the start of autumn, I had the (first time) pleasure of feeding some wild seals at a harbour in Victoria. It was, no word of a lie, one of the best experiences of my whole life, as I can imagine this was thoroughly awesome for you as well. Thank you for sharing the off-the-charts adorableness with us - I'm passing out from a cuteness overload on this end! :D
ReplyDeleteTons of hugs,

oh they are so adorable!! the wee little babes are so sweet, but yes, shame about the tourists, but glad for the fence. i think they had to do something similar in Victoria about the little penguins they have down there. i get that they're cute, but i wish people would learn to look with their eyes not their hands. isnt that something we learn in kindy? hope youre well! xo
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable animals. I hope we can prevent endangering these wonderful creatures.
ReplyDeleteI DON'T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND, I'm sobbing, this is incredible! <3 There's a beach near me where deer walk right up to humans expecting food from people in their cars all the time--which also sucks 'cause then they learn to associate cars with food and walk out into the street to get hit by cars because they're too comfortable with them--but SEALS! Ahhh I'm SO jealous, how amazing!
